Doha, June 17 (QNA) – The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) has intensified preparations for the start of the new season of horse racing which will kick off with the major foreign races that the club sponsors whether in France or England.
The club’s management is working to achieve the desired level in terms of sponsorship and organization in light of the important races and the great successes achieved by the club during the previous years, increasing the responsibility of the club’s management whether in foreign or local races on the Al Rayyan and Al Uqda tracks.
As the horse racing season of the QREC concluded weeks ago, the club’s management began preparing for the next season which will be full of strong races, especially as the financial prizes for the winners were increased with the great support of state officials and keenness to provide sufficient means for owners, trainers and riders to work on the development of horse racing.
QREC Chairman Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi explained that much work is to be done in the coming period at the level of preparation for sponsoring more than one foreign race, especially the Qatar Goodwood Festival in England and the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in France, in addition to sponsoring more foreign races.
He pointed out that preparations are underway for the new local season as the final touches are being put in place whether for the races to be held at Al Rayyan Racecourse or Al Uqda Racecourse.
He added that the last season witnessed 69 races, of them 52 races were held on the Al Rayyan Racecourse and 17 races on Al Uqda Racecourse. It is the first time that this number of races has been held, he added.
Last season also witnessed an increase in the value of the financial prizes allocated for the HH the Amir Sword Festival to ten million dollars. However, the new season will have general financial prizes that are the highest in the history of the club, he said, pointing out that the season program will be announced soon after finalizing it and specifying the dates of all races, categories of participating horses, and other details of the racing program and conditions of participation.
