Doha, June 14 (QNA) – The Old Doha Port and Doha Marine Sports Club are set to organize the first Kayak Fishing Tournament on Friday and Saturday between 3 and 7pm.
The event will be held at the (Al Bandar) area of the Old Doha port as a starting point and the fishing zone will be the port basin, opposite to waterfront of the Al Mina area.
Contestants will be using special one-seat fishing kayaks and any of the traditional fishing equipment and tools, such as rods, fishing lines or hooks accepted by the tournament jury.
The jury will measure and weigh the fish caught by each contestant during the two days to decide the winners.
The Old Doha Port and the Doha Marine Sports Club will be giving in-kind prizes to the winners and participants, in support and encouragement of traditional fishing enthusiasts who go to such activities.
The competition is part of the strategy of the Old Doha Port to activate marine tourism and support marine sports, which is a major part of the activities available in the country, during the summer period.
