First International Conference on Debate and Dialogue in Doha Concludes

Doha, May 30 (QNA) – The activities of the first International Conference on Debate and Dialogue and the associated exhibition concluded on Tuesday.

The conference and the associated exhibition were organized by the QatarDebate Center, which was established by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) to celebrate youth graduates who have represented the State of Qatar in international forums and championships, over the past fifteen years in international forums in both English and Arabic languages.

The conference – which saw the participation of more than 800 participants from all over the world, witnessed the signing of 6 agreements with each of the Jordanian Crown Prince Foundation; Al Jazeera Media Institute; Education Above All Foundation; University of Windsor, Canada; and Universities of Utah and Louisville, USA. The agreements aim to promote the cooperation with QatarDebate Center and expand its programs in those countries.

Over two days, the conference discussed a number of academic issues specialized in the debate community through four main themes: Argumentation: Frameworks and Applications Theme, Debate and Education Theme, Debate in Islamic Tradition Theme, and Dialogue: Social and Cultural Dimensions Theme.

The conference had a number of accompanying activities, including two session for keynote speakers; two speakers from QatarDebate Research Fellowship Program; Oasis of Dialogue, which discussed Relationship Fluidity: Family in a Globalized World; and a number of discussion panels around the Experience of Debating in Arabic for Non-Natives and Concept of Debate between the Past and Future; as well parallel session that discussed the four themes of the conference.

The conference also witnessed the presentation of a number of research posters, as well as a space for social interaction and interactive stations, with the participation of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, Al Jazeera Network, and others.

The conference also aimed to direct scientific research towards finding solutions by discussing academic issues and benefiting from research results to develop knowledge production in the fields of debate and dialogue, in addition to expanding research programs and spreading this culture to serve the debate community around the world.
